Society and Gender in Norway and Austria

Hello/Hallo/Hej!

The first idea of our project was to make a comparison between the national women's football team in Austria and in Norway. So we made a presentation about it, which was divided in two parts. One part was about the history of women's football in Austria and the other part was about five famous women footballplayers in the Austrian national team. This five women are called Nina Burger, Manuela Zinsberger, Nicole Billa, Laura Feiersinger and Viktoria Schnaderbeck.

In March when the Norwegian students came to Austria our idea of the project changed a lot! We decided to change the plan completely and now our project is mainly about society and gender. We divided our project in different parts which we as well included in our survey. This parts are religion, boyfriend/girlfriend, LGBTQ, working, alcohol/smoking/drugs, abortion, birth control and discrimination, racism and sexism.

In our guideline we wrote about our ideas, how we are going to communicate, while the Austrians are in Austria and the Norwegians in Norway and most important we made a timeline. In this timeline we made concrete plan about what should be done by which date. So like making the survey, evaluate the survey and research our topic.

Because we decided to make a survey in our age groups we agreed on making an interview in our school. By this we have different opinions on our topic in Norway and Austria. This survey we are going to evaluate and than make a comparison between the two countries. This are our questions:

1. Are you religious? Do you accept others who are?

2. When did you start drinking? Do you drink regularly?

3. Do you consider yourself apart of the LGBTQ – community (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning)? If not, are you acceptive and supportive towards it?

4. Have you ever had a girlfriend/ boyfriend? If so how long was the relationship?

5. Are you pro life or pro choice? (Do you accept abortion? Would you consider to ever have one?)

6. Have you ever smoked/ done drugs? Do you do it regularly?

7. Have you lost your virginity? If so, how old were you?

8. Have you ever had a job? If so, when did you start and which one?

9. Have you ever faced, or do you face, discrimination because of your sex/gender?

10. Have you ever been confronted with racism?

11. Are you sometimes afraid of refugees coming to your country? If so, why?

12. Do you use any kind of birth control? If so, which one?

For these two days we worked on our project in Vienna we made as well a small diary (in German) about our working process.

We also made some researche on our topic and each person read an article regarding our theme so there is one about the plans to gender mainstreaming in Vienna and one about Conchita's influence concerning diversity and tolerance.

In this two days we started to evaluate and compare our surveys. We created statistics to present the results. For this we also discussed reasons why there are these differences and similarities between Norway and Austria.
